Product Troubleshooting

Possible Troubleshooting

Important Please Read First!

Before removing your replacement cartridge from the bag, gently shake it 4-5 times. Failure to do so may result in poor print quality.

However, do not shake a cartridge that has already been installed into the printer as it may leak.

You may notice some ink staining on the underside of the cap of the cartridge. This is normal and not a leaking cartridge, but handle the cartridge carefully as ink may stain clothing.

You may follow the steps below to replace the ink cartridge or simply follow the instructions on your printer screen. If necessary, please consult your printer’s user manual.

  • Press the Menu button until you see MAIN MENU.
  • Press the up or down arrows to choose Rep. Ink Tank. Then press the right arrow button.
  • Press the up or down arrows to choose Yes. Then press the OK button.
  • Follow the instructions to open the Ink Tank Cover and remove the old cartridge.
  • Press and lift the Ink Tank Lock Lever to open and remove the empty cartridge by lifting it out being careful not to drop it.
  • Place in a plastic bag or on newspapers as any remaining ink may stain what it comes into contact with.
  • Press the OK button and install the replacement cartridge with the ink holes facing down and ensuring that the orientation of the cartridge is the same as the one that had been removed.
  • Your printer manual will show the proper installation procedure.

If your cartridge does not fit into your printer, please confirm that the cartridge pictured matches the cartridge you have in your hand or installed in your machine.

Confirm that the printer you are using is listed in the printer compatibility table as a suitable printer for the cartridge you are trying to install.

If ONE of these TWO criteria do NOT match, you have most likely received the incorrect cartridge for your printer. Please visit our PRINTER COMPATIBILITY page in order to determine what cartridge you need for your machine.

If you have the correct cartridge for your printer, please make sure that you are installing your cartridge into the correct location in the printer. The color of the Ink Tank Lock Lever should match the replacement cartridge color.

Please also be sure that the orientation of the cartridge is correct. Please consult your printer’s user manual to learn how to correctly install your remanufactured inkjet cartridge.
The cartridge and printer used in this video may not look identical to yours, but the same procedures used in this video may be used for the cartridge you have chosen to troubleshoot.
If you encounter an error message stating that the cartridge cannot be recognized, is an incompatible cartridge, the wrong cartridge is installed or if your printer has blinking lights, there may be a simple solution to fix this.

Please begin by carefully removing the cartridge from the printer.

Locate the chip on the bottom of the cartridge and confirm that nothing is obstructing the chip either externally or in the housing.

Slowly reinstall the cartridge.

If the error still persists, turn off the printer with the cartridges installed and disconnect the printer from the power source.

Leave unplugged for 5 minutes, then reconnect the power supply and turn the printer back on.

If you still receive an error message at this point, there may be a problem with the chip; and you should contact the seller of your remanufactured cartridge.

If you have printed a document and are unsatisfied with the print quality, you may need to perform a cleaning cycle in order to improve the quality of your print.

Please attempt the following procedures in order to do so. Please keep in mind that this process may vary by Printer, and that you may also consult your printer’s user manual for instructions on performing a cleaning cycle.

Begin by printing a test pattern to ensure the printhead nozzles are clean.

  • Make sure there is paper in the printer and press the Menu Button until you see Main Menu.
  • Press the up or down arrows to choose Test Print. Then press the right arrow button.
  • Press the up or down arrows to choose Nozzle Check. Then press the right arrow button.
  • Press the up or down arrows to choose Yes. Then press the OK button.
  • The printer will print a test pattern.
  • If the quality of the horizontal lines is good, the nozzles are clear and not clogged.
  • If any sections of the horizontal lines are poor quality (broken or light), the nozzles for those colors are clogged. If the nozzles are clogged, you should clean the printhead.

Again, this process may vary by printer; and your printer manual will contain instructions on performing a cleaning cycle.

  • Press the Menu Button until you see Main Menu.
  • Press the up or down arrows to choose Head Cleaning. Then press the right arrow button.
  • Press the up or down arrows to choose the type of cleaning. Then press the OK button.
  • Please consult your printer’s user manual for the different types of cleaning, but start with Head Cleaning A
  • When the printhead cleaning has been completed, print a test pattern as outlined above.
  • If the print quality has not improved, perform Head Cleaning B.

If there is still no improvement, you may need to replace the printhead.

Please note that printheads are a consumable item. They may need to be replaced periodically throughout the life of your printer to ensure the best printing quality.
